Tips & Tricks

When using your Firetub be sure to start with plenty of paper and kindling. Avoid using cardboard as it will form blockages in the spark arrester. Place it inside the stove, under the chimney side. This will ensure proper circulation of fresh air and exhaust. As the fire intensity increases, gradually transition to larger pieces of wood.

Fire Smoking Excessively

If you’re experiencing excessive smoke, it is likely due to a lack of air supply. Open the damper or remove the lid completely. Once the fire is established, due to the efficient design of the Firetub stove, there should be little to no smoke.

Difficulty maintaining ignition/smoking

Your chimney will require occasional cleaning as the spark arrester may accumulate soot. How often cleaning is required depends on what you burn. Cleaning of the spark arrester can be done with compressed air, water, or a brush. A clogged spark arrester is almost always the reason for poor ignition. If you can’t clearly see daylight through the spark arrester, it requires cleaning. The stove must be able to properly exhaust in order to operate.

Water supply

If you’re able to have a hose to supply water, we like to leave ours attached while using the Firetub. Simply close the drain valve once filled. With the supply line attached, if you want to cool off with a bit of refreshing cold water, you can just reach down to open the valve. No need to even hop out of your Firetub!

Drain Valve

When fully draining the tub by tipping or turning it over for storage, be sure to either disconnect the drain valve assembly or tip the tub away from the drain valve assembly. Tipping the tub onto the drain valve assembly will cause damage.

Do not over-tighten the drain valve.

Drain Plug

Your Firetub is shipped with the drain plug installed. It can be used in place of the valve if you choose. Removal of the plug can be done with a 3/8” ratchet. The 3/8” drive square is a perfect fit. Do not over-tighten the drain plug.
